Our Catholic Church records collection taken from the Archdiocese of Portland in Oregon, consists of two different works.
When we first offered the church records it was in form of a surname indexed database, which is still available if you click on
"surname" on the left column. However, we decided to make the records available by parish and date much like we do with the newspaper collection so that the researcher
can search more than just the name, but a time frame.
Our new section "Parishes" will allow you to search by the parish and then by the sacrament and then by date.
The records are listed by sacrament, Baptisms, Marriages and Deaths. You will not find any Baptisms more current than 100 years due
to Oregon's 100 year privacy law. In addition the Deaths and Marriage are 50 years or older. We will be updating the records as the new year arrives and we are allowed
to add the previous year to the database.
All of our church records are produced from the exact images of the parish sacramental books which were filmed by the Archdiocese.
Presently we have 14 parishes combined in both collections and if you check our "What's New and Coming Soon" section you will see the
parishes we are working on to add to the collection.
Some of our oldest parishes will not include records from the dates that the parish was established because of our policy not to publish
any of the records that were completed by Harriet Munnick in her Catholic Church Records of the Pacific Northwest. The Munnick collection is still in print and sold
by the St. Paul Mission Historical Society in St. Paul, OR. In our section Cumulative Indexes of Munnicks works on this site it lists her books, the parish
and the dates that were published for that parish. Our databases will start where Munnick's work stopped.
We hope you enjoy researching these collections. |
