Newspapers

Up until now we have offered only Oregon newspapers in our collection, however we are now pleased to include the Utah newspapers.
At present we have 17 different Oregon papers in the database collection for Oregon. Our Utah papers will start with the Deseret News Weekly. We hope that you enjoy all of our great newspaper archive.
Newspaper File Types
The newspapers are in a TIF or TIFF format. The reasons behind our leaving them in this format outweigh any other choices for several reasons. We want to give our members the important option of selective printing. With the TIF file format there is a large variety of software that will read, magnify and most important, print on a selective basis the article, sentence, or column rather than the default set by your printer. This printing option is not available with PDF format. We have suggested two of the available softwares that have selective print options you may want to review in our "Resources" area. There are many members using a variety of graphics software to read and print our files and we recommend the use of one. Recently we have found out that some software updates such as "ITunes" have built in browsers so that you can view the music videos on their site. If you download their browser it will override the browser you currently have on your computer and you won't be able to use the zoom or print options when viewing the newspaper files. All you need to do is remove that browser, you won't have to remove the ITunes software just their add on brower they install along with the upgrade. If you have any further questions please contact us.
Newspaper Dating Format
The dating format for the Oregon newspapers is by year, then weekly edition date, then by pages within that weekly edition. The dating format for the Utah, Deseret Weekly News is different because the paper created its own index which was set up by volume and page number. Even though some of the indexes are not legible the amount that is legible is a tremendous help and we have left it in for that reason.
