Newspaper Indexes

There were only three professional indexes to Oregon newspapers. The Oregonian index is an ongoing compilation and the first years 1850-1909 were a selective index.
The Spectator and the Statesman indexes were originally compiled by the WPA. The Spectator covers only the years the paper was published under that name 1846-1855 and the Statesman
covers only the first 16 years of the newspaper editions.
Now that we offer the Utah newspapers we will be looking at the available indexes to those newspapers. The Deseret News Weekly is the
first newspaper that we have to offer and when the newspaper was published they included an annual index. Even though some of the images to the indexes for the Deseret News are not
as legible as most of the newspaper itself, we will offer them in their original format with intentions to re-produce them at some future date.
